GYOUZAN, Nakano Yukizyou, Tokoname, Japan

I admire the work of Nakano Yukizyou and recently also of Nakano Yuuji. I still remember purchasing my first Nakano Hand-Made hand-nail-signed! And friends telling me that I was crazy spending so much money on one single pot! Eight years later, my collection has grown to 35 pots and continues to expand.

Gyouzan - Nakano Yukizyou, is referred to in Japan as 'Nakano 'Arukisan', or Nakano 'row three', the best living Japanese potter for unglazed pots, Nakano Yukizyou, and his son-in-law, Nakano Yuuji, of the Gyouzan kiln, also produce some superb glazed pieces of which I have a couple in my collection.

Gyouzan-- 行山 (MOUNTAIN TRAVEL)

He was an apprentice under Wada Yoshiyama, and opened an independent Kiln in 1972 (Showa 47) is a true master of his craft and is pots display superb detail and refinement in their design and finish. Drainage holes are often quirky shapes and arranged in patterns, and the undersides of the pots often show great attention to detail. Unglazed pots.
