A beautifully handcrafted Japanese bonsai pot by Kiyoshi Koiwai (小岩井清), working under the artist name Fuka (風香), produced in Tokoname (常滑), one of Japan's renowned Rokkoyo (日本六古窯). This elegant Oval Bonsai Pot (楕円鉢) is finished in a magnificent Blue-Green Running Ruri glaze (青緑瑠璃流れ釉), where rich amber tones naturally cascade over a soft celadon blue-green ground, producing remarkable depth, movement and individuality in the firing.
The pot features an almost imperceptible internal rim (内縁) that blends effortlessly into the elegant oval form, creating a clean and uninterrupted silhouette. The beautifully controlled Nagare-yu (流れ釉) glaze flows naturally over the shoulders of the pot, with warm amber and honey tones merging into soft blue-green hues, producing exceptional visual depth while perfectly expressing the Japanese aesthetic of shibui (渋い), chowa (調和) and yo no bi (用の美).
The pot is supported by four beautifully sculpted recessed cloud feet (雲形足・落とし足), each individually modelled and proportioned to provide excellent stability while giving the vessel an elegant visual lightness. Their refined organic form complements the flowing glaze and enhances the harmonious proportions of the overall design.
The underside is thoughtfully designed with three drainage holes and six wiring holes (水抜き穴・針金穴), providing exceptional functionality for bonsai cultivation while maintaining the clean aesthetics expected of a high-quality Tokoname bonsai container. The base bears the impressed Fuka (風香) seal, confirming its authenticity and origin from the Fuka Kiln (風香窯).
The harmonious proportions, refined craftsmanship and spectacular flowing glaze make this an exceptional exhibition-quality bonsai pot, ideally suited to deciduous, flowering and evergreen bonsai where the richness of the glaze enhances rather than overpowers the composition.

About the Potter – Fuka 風香 (Kiyoshi Koiwai 小岩井清)
Kiyoshi Koiwai (小岩井清), working under the artist name Fuka (風香), is a respected contemporary Tokoname ceramic artist producing handmade bonsai containers from the Fuka Kiln (風香窯). His work is recognised for combining traditional Tokoname craftsmanship with expressive glazing techniques and elegant, well-balanced forms.
Fuka's bonsai pots are characterised by refined proportions (均整), meticulous finishing, and beautifully controlled glazes that develop unique movement during firing. His flowing Ruri (瑠璃釉) and ash-influenced glazes have become particularly admired among collectors for their depth, richness and individuality, ensuring that every piece possesses its own distinctive character.
Remaining faithful to the traditions of Tokoname-yaki (常滑焼), Fuka produces bonsai containers that unite horticultural functionality with understated Japanese aesthetics, creating vessels that enhance the natural beauty and sekai-kan (世界観) of the bonsai rather than competing with it.
