Description:
A distinguished rectangular (長方形 chōhōkei) bonsai pot by 1st Generation Gyouzan (Nakano Yukizyou 中野行山), crafted from the celebrated Tokoname clay (常滑土 Tokoname-tsuchi). This piece, left unglazed (無釉 muyū), radiates the inherent beauty and rustic charm of Tokoname pottery.
The pot’s clean lines and minimalistic design speak to the classical aesthetic of Gyouzan’s early work. Its gently rounded corners (丸みを帯びた角 marumi wo obita kado) and straight walls (直線壁 chokusen kabe) convey a quiet elegance and timeless quality. A dual band of raised decoration (二重帯線 nijū taisen) encircles the base, adding a refined architectural feature that enhances its visual presence. The robust feet (足 ashi) and crisp edges define the silhouette, giving the piece a grounded and harmonious look.
The clay’s natural texture (自然な土 shizen na tsuchi) reflects the earthy tones of the Tokoname region, enriched by a soft granular feel. Over time, a subtle patina (古色 koshoku) has developed, heightening the character of this pot and emphasizing its age and authenticity.
Notably, the pot is signed by the artist (作家署名 sakka shomei) on the bottom, marking it as a genuine work of the 1st Generation Gyouzan (Nakano Yukizyou 中野行山). This signature is an important feature, confirming the pot’s provenance and artistry.
This piece embodies the principles of wabi-sabi (侘寂), where simplicity, natural beauty, and imperfection are appreciated.
The pot is equipped with excellent drainage holes (水抜き穴 suibunaki-ana) and wiring holes (針金穴 harigana-ana), ensuring both practicality and longevity for bonsai cultivation.
