Description:
This exquisite bonsai pot is crafted by 片岡勝志 (Kataoka Katsushi) at the 礼峰窯 (Reiho-yama) kiln, a name synonymous with high-quality Tokoname pottery. Reiho is known for producing some of the finest bonsai pots, and 片岡勝志, the son of 片岡誠山 (Kataoka Seizan), has continued his father's legacy, refining traditional techniques and creating pieces that are highly regarded by bonsai enthusiasts and collectors alike.
The pot is unglazed, allowing the rich, groggy texture of the Tokoname clay to shine. Over time, it has developed a beautiful 経年変化 (keinen henka), or patina, adding character and depth. The pot’s 切り足 (kiri-ashi) feet are incised and finely detailed, creating a refined and elevated appearance. The 四隅の窓 (shisumi no mado), or windowed corners, contribute an additional layer of sophistication to the rectangular design, while the 内縁 (naen) (internal rim) is subtle yet refined. The 立ち上がり縁 (tachiagari-en), or raised lip, is finished with a delicate, raised border, enhancing the pot’s overall elegance.
The underside of the pot is marked with 片岡勝志's 銘 (mei), providing provenance and confirming the craftsmanship behind this unique piece. The strategically placed 排水穴 (haisui-ana) (drainage holes) and 配線穴 (haisai-ana) (wiring holes) ensure that the pot is both functional and beautiful, supporting the health of bonsai trees.
A true reflection of the Reiho kiln's commitment to excellence, this pot is an exceptional example of the artistry and tradition of Tokoname pottery. It is an invaluable addition for collectors and bonsai enthusiasts alike.
