A vintage artisan-made Japanese bonsai pot (盆栽鉢) crafted by the first generation master potter Kataoka Akiji (片岡 秋二) of the Yamaaki kiln (山秋窯), located in Tokoname City (常滑市), one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns (日本六古窯).
This piece is a fine example of Akiji’s early craftsmanship — drum style (ドラム型) with an unglazed finish that highlights the natural tone and texture of Tokoname clay. The midsection (中帯) is adorned with a precise series of raised bead motifs (珠文様) forming pyramidal patterns, creating a beautiful sense of rhythm and visual weight.
