Product Details:
Region: Tokoname 常滑市
Kiln: Bigei 美芸
Potter: Hirata Atsumi 平田あつみ
A refined, artisan-made Japanese bonsai pot by Hirata Atsumi of the Bigei kiln, Tokoname. This round form features a soft, continuous silhouette with a gently rounded shoulder and a subtle internal rim (内縁) that adds both strength and refinement to the overall profile. The exterior is finished in a deep cobalt-blue glaze (瑠璃釉 / 紺釉), showing fine age-appropriate crazing (貫入) that enhances its depth and character without distracting from the purity of the form.
The pot is raised on three sculptural feet (三足), each carefully modelled with classical scroll-like detailing, giving a sense of movement and elegance while maintaining excellent visual balance. The contrast between the rich blue glaze and the warm, exposed Tokoname clay (土味) on the feet and base creates a pleasing and harmonious aesthetic. The base is well-finished, with a clean, recessed foot ring and an impressed oval Bigei seal (美芸印), neatly placed and clearly defined.
Inside, the pot is unglazed, revealing the smooth, fine-textured clay surface, ideal for healthy root development. A central drainage hole (排水穴) is accompanied by three smaller wiring holes (針金穴), providing excellent functionality for secure tree placement. The proportions, low profile, and calm presence give the pot a strong sense of stability and balance (安定感), making it especially suitable for refined shohin compositions.
