Description:
A vintage artisan-made Japanese bonsai pot from Tokoname, produced at the Bigei kiln by Hirata Atsumi. This round vessel (丸鉢) is unglazed (無釉) and formed from iron-rich Tokoname clay, which has developed an appealing natural patina through age and use.

The form is strongly architectural, characterized by a pronounced upper rim band accented with evenly spaced raised rivet details (鋲飾り). Below this, the central body is intentionally textured, creating a tactile contrast against the smoother banding and adding visual depth. The granular surface highlights the clay’s 土味 (earthy character), contributing to a quiet sense of maturity and refinement.

The rim (口縁) is softly rounded and well resolved, reinforcing a balanced and composed silhouette. A clearly articulated lower band provides visual grounding before transitioning into the base. The pot is supported by three sculptural feet (足付), carefully shaped and proportioned to lift the form while maintaining a stable, grounded presence. Overall, the proportions convey strength and restraint, making this pot particularly well suited to refined chuhin or larger shohin bonsai.

The interior is smoothly finished and functional, featuring a central drainage hole accompanied by three auxiliary wiring holes (水抜き穴・針金穴), ensuring excellent drainage and secure anchoring of the tree.
