This is a high-quality, handmade Japanese bonsai pot by Suishouen Hekisui (翠松園), produced in Tokoname. The pot is a classic drum-shaped round form (taiko-gata maru-bachi 太鼓形丸鉢), with strong horizontal proportions and a confident, grounded presence. The profile is defined by a gently flared upper wall and a pronounced mid-body band, giving the pot a powerful yet well-balanced silhouette.
The exterior features an applied raised bead decoration (ryubu-mon 粒文) running continuously around the mid-band, forming a rhythmic and traditional motif that enhances the drum form without appearing overly ornate. A subtle upper lip (kuchi-buchi 口縁) creates a clean visual transition into the interior, reinforcing the sense of structure and containment.
The pot is unglazed (muyu 無釉), showcasing the natural Tokoname clay with a warm brown tone and fine granular texture. Over decades, the surface has developed a soft, natural patina (yaku-iro no keika 焼色の経過), giving depth and character to the clay and highlighting the craftsmanship of the piece. The interior displays a finely finished clay surface with visible iron speckling, typical of well-prepared Tokoname bodies.
The base is fitted with three well-positioned drainage holes (haisui-ana 排水穴) and two wiring holes (hari-ana 針穴), ensuring full functionality for bonsai cultivation. The pot stands on small, sculpted feet, subtly carved and proportioned to lift the form while maintaining visual stability. The underside bears the impressed square seal of Suishouen Hekisui (翠松園角印), clearly legible and well preserved.
