A stunning, medium/large, unglazed, in a traditional oval design, internal rim, cut straight round feet, handmade pot that provides visual focus and grounding for your tree.
With the Yamaaki kiln no longer in production since the early 2000s, pieces from the 3rd generation are increasingly sought-after by collectors. This pot offers not only utility but also historical and artistic value — a fine addition to any serious bonsai collection.
The clay is the distinctive brown of Toshio’s work, and bears his signature beside his seal.
External dimensions: 45.0 x 33.6 x 6.2cm
A light application of oil, showing the character of the clay and a beautiful patina that is starting to form.
Condition: Excellent condition, with very minimal use, as evidenced by the almost unnoticeable hard water stains.
Note: There is a small chip at the bottom of one of the feet, which is barely noticeable. A photo is included, and the price has been reduced, with free shipping.
Yamaaki is a renowned family of bonsai pot makers from Tokoname, Japan.
Yamaaki, 3rd Generation Potter Katakoa Toshio. The kiln was started by Kataoka Akitsuga and fired by three generations of potters, until it finally went 'cold' in 2011. It was the most productive bonsai pot kiln in Tokoname, fired with gas, which gives those fantastic clay colours mimicking the pots of ancient China. There are many production Yamaaki pots available; those with nail-carved signatures were handmade by the Kataoka family and are consequently more valuable.
