Description:
A contemporary handmade Japanese bonsai pot (手作り盆栽鉢) by the modern Tokoname potter Fukuda Keiun (福田慶雲).
This rectangular form (長方形) is made from light buff Tokoname clay (淡い黄味の常滑土), fine-grained and smooth, and finished with a layered purple glaze showing subtle variation between deep violet and bluish-lavender tones. The glaze transition runs horizontally around the pot in a softly undulating, wave-like line, creating a natural sense of movement reminiscent of a tidal or sea-wave effect.
The upper edge is defined by a very subtle inner rim (ごく控えめな内縁), with the outer wall remaining visually continuous rather than flared or lipped. The lower section features a semi-glazed basal band (半釉の高台周りの帯), where the glaze thins and partially breaks to reveal the warm clay tone beneath, visually grounding the form without creating a distinct banded separation.
The pot stands on refined cloud feet (雲足), fully glazed and carefully proportioned, contributing to a stable and well-balanced presence (安定感のある姿). The overall form is composed and functional, suitable for shohin to small chuhin bonsai.
On the underside, Fukuda Keiun’s hand-incised signature (慶雲銘) is clearly visible, together with a practical arrangement of drainage and wiring holes (排水穴・針金穴), reflecting sound contemporary Tokoname craftsmanship.
