Product Details:

A vintage, artisan-made oval bonsai pot (楕円鉢 – daen-bachi) by Gyouzan 初代 (Gyouzan Shodai), Nakano Yukizyou (中野雪城), one of the most revered potters of Tokoname. This piece bears the distinctive and highly regarded 爪描き (Tsumegaki) — the hand-scratched “claw-drawn” signature carved directly into the base — a hallmark of early and authentic works by the first-generation Gyouzan.

The form is an elegant oval, with a broad, gently curved lip (縁 – fuchi) that gives the pot visual weight and structure. A subtle but well-defined basal band (下部帯 – kabu obi) runs around the lower body, adding a refined touch without overpowering the clean silhouette. It rests on four recessed feet (隠し足 – kakushi ashi), which are slightly set inward to create a light, floating impression while ensuring excellent stability.

Made from unglazed red-brown groggy clay (無釉赤茶の荒土), the surface texture is natural and earthy — prized for its breathability and compatibility with bonsai cultivation. Over time, the piece has developed a soft, warm patina (景色 – keshiki), enhancing both its character and collectible value.

 Nakano Yukizyou (中野行山, b.1940), founder of the Gyouzan kiln (行山窯), is regarded as one of the most respected living bonsai potters in Japan. Affectionately known in the bonsai world as “Nakano Arukisan” (中野アルキ三) — meaning “Nakano Row Three,” referencing his position at the kiln — his works are admired for their balance, precision, and timeless simplicity.

Particularly known for his unglazed (無釉) pieces, Nakano’s pottery reveals the strength and beauty of Tokoname clay. He pays exceptional attention to every detail — from the arrangement of the drainage holes, which are often playfully shaped, to the carefully carved undersides that reflect his deep respect for form and function.

本作は、日本を代表する盆栽鉢作家 中野行山（初代） による、ヴィンテージの手作り 楕円鉢（だえんばち） です。作品の底部には、初代行山作品の証である、独特な手彫りの署名 「爪描き（つめがき）」 が刻まれており、その希少性と真正性を高めています。

フォルムは柔らかな曲線を持つ楕円形で、幅広で程よく立ち上がった 縁（ふち） が、鉢全体に安定感と存在感を与えています。胴部下部には繊細な 帯状の装飾（下部帯 – かぶおび） が施され、控えめながらも上品なアクセントとなっています。鉢は 四つの隠し足（かくしあし） によって支えられ、見た目に軽やかさを与えつつ、しっかりとした安定感も兼ね備えています。
