A vintage artisan-made Japanese bonsai pot by Hattori 服部, from the renowned ceramic region of Tokoname 常滑市. Formed in a broad and shallow oval shape (楕円形), this elegant container is finished in a refined soft blue to blue-lavender glaze 青紫釉, giving the pot a calm and sophisticated presence.

The body has a beautifully balanced low profile, with gently rounded walls that flow smoothly from the upper edge towards the base. The overall silhouette is restrained and harmonious, allowing the proportions and glaze to define the character of the piece.

The upper opening incorporates a clearly defined internal rim (内縁 / uchibuchi), neatly framing the planting area and adding structure to the upper profile while maintaining the clean oval form.

The glaze is particularly attractive, showing soft blue and blue-lavender tones 青紫釉 with subtle variation across the surface. Slightly deeper colour gathers around the upper edge, while the body displays a softer, more even tone. Fine age-related glaze lines and gentle tonal changes contribute to an appealing keinen no fuai (経年の風合い), giving the surface additional depth and maturity.

The pot stands on four recessed curved cut feet (切足 / kiri-ashi). Each foot is set discreetly beneath the body and shaped to follow the curvature of the oval form. Their carefully cut profile creates a subtle shadow beneath the pot, giving the broad container a light and balanced stance while maintaining excellent stability.

The underside remains largely unglazed, exposing the warm natural clay body and creating an attractive contrast with the cool blue glazed exterior. The base carries the maker's incised signature 銘 (mei), identifying the pot as a Hattori work.

The base incorporates two main drainage holes (排水穴) together with six drain/wiring holes (排水・針金穴) arranged around the perimeter, providing excellent drainage and multiple anchoring positions for securely wiring a mature bonsai into the container.

At 47.3cm in length and only 6.7cm high, the pot has particularly elegant proportions. The combination of its broad oval form (楕円形), internal rim 内縁, recessed curved cut feet 切足, mature soft blue glaze 青紫釉, and practical drainage layout creates a refined and highly functional bonsai container with a strong sense of chowa (調和).
