Description
A beautifully handcrafted Japanese bonsai pot (日本製盆栽鉢), made by renowned Tokoname potter Katsumi Namiki (並木克巳). This round form (丸鉢 / marubachi) displays classic balance with a gently rounded upper lip (口縁 / kōen) and a subtle stepped lower band (下段帯 / gedan-obi) that gives the pot a grounded yet refined stance.
The exterior showcases a soft blue–green celadon glaze (青瓷釉 / seiji-yu), lightly textured and naturally variegated, creating a calm atmospheric presence. The interior clay reveals warm Tokoname earth (常滑土) with subtle firing tones—a hallmark of kiln-fired artisan work.
The underside features a clearly incised signature 「克」 (Katsu), consistent with Namiki’s hand-carved markings (刻銘 / kokumei).
The pot is equipped with a large central drainage hole (排水孔 / haisui-kō) and six auxiliary wiring holes (針金穴 / harigane-ana) arranged evenly for maximum stability during bonsai mounting. The cut foot channels (切り込み足 / kirikomi-ashi) are crisp and functional, ensuring proper aeration and water flow.
The pot has an elegant weight and proportion, giving a strong sense of harmony and balance (調和と均整 / chōwa to kinsei)—ideal for shohin conifers, deciduous trees, or accent plantings.
