Description
A vintage, artisan-made Japanese bonsai pot from Tokoname, displaying the restrained strength and refined construction for which the Hisada Keizan lineage is known. The form is a softly rounded oval-rectangle (楕円長方形), well balanced and particularly suitable for mature deciduous bonsai and broadleaf evergreen compositions.
The straight, clean walls are visually structured by carefully defined horizontal banding. At the upper edge, the rim effect is created by a distinct upper band (口縁帯・上帯) rather than a turned lip, adding both protection and visual weight. A secondary basal band (胴帯・下帯) subtly breaks the vertical plane of the body, grounding the form and reinforcing a sense of stability and balance. This architectural approach gives the pot a powerful yet understated presence.
The clay body is a fine Tokoname stoneware with visible grog (砂混じり土), fired unglazed (無釉焼成). The surface shows a warm, natural tone and an emerging patina (景色), which will continue to deepen and improve with age and use, enhancing the character of the piece over time.
Discreet, rounded integrated feet (一体成形の丸足) maintain a low, elegant stance while providing excellent stability. The interior rim is cleanly finished, and the base is well considered, with properly placed drainage and wiring holes (水抜き穴・針金穴), making the pot fully suitable for professional bonsai cultivation.
