A substantial vintage, artisan-made Japanese bonsai pot by Second Generation Hisada Keizan（二代 久田桂山）, Hisada Sadao 久田貞雄, from Tokoname 常滑市. At 58.6cm, this is an impressive large-format example, combining strong classical proportions with the restrained refinement and functional character associated with traditional Tokoname bonsai ceramics.

The softly rounded oval-rectangular form（楕円長方形鉢） creates a harmonious and powerful silhouette. The walls rise cleanly with controlled proportions, while the upper perimeter is defined by a distinct upper rim band（口縁帯・上帯）, giving the vessel visual strength and definition.

A secondary horizontal band toward the lower body （胴帯・下帯） provides further architectural structure, visually grounding the vessel and creating an elegant transition toward the base. Together, these restrained horizontal elements establish a strong sense of 均衡 (kinko – balance), 安定感 (anteikan – stability) and 品格 (hinkaku – dignity).

The pot is formed from fine Tokoname clay containing visible grog （砂混じり土） and finished unglazed（無釉）. Its warm natural coloration and subtly textured surface reveal an attractive 土味 (tsuchi-aji), while age and cultivation have begun to establish natural 経年変化 (kenen henka) and 景色 (keshiki) across the clay. These qualities will continue to mature naturally through use.

The vessel is supported by discreet rounded integrated feet（一体成形の丸足）, maintaining a low and elegant stance despite the considerable dimensions of the pot. Their restrained treatment complements the rounded geometry of the vessel while providing excellent stability.

The interior is cleanly finished, with appropriately positioned drainage and wiring holes（排水穴・針金穴） providing the practical functionality required of a professional bonsai container. The underside carries the maker's impressed seal（陶印）, with no hand-incised signature, making this a Seal Only（印のみ） example.

The combination of purposeful construction, understated detailing and natural clay character expresses the Japanese concept of 用の美 (yo no bi) — beauty arising through function.

Hisada Sadao 久田貞雄, born in 1930 in Tokoname, is the Second Generation Hisada Keizan（二代 久田桂山). His work is associated with the traditional Tokoname bonsai-pot tradition, particularly refined unglazed containers in which proportion, clay character and practical functionality are carefully balanced.

His restrained approach allows the qualities of the Tokoname clay （土味） and its gradual transformation through age and cultivation （経年変化） to become integral elements of the pot. This quiet aesthetic reflects 渋み (shibumi), 調和 (chowa – harmony) and 用の美 (yo no bi – beauty through function).
