A vintage, artisan-made rectangular bonsai pot by the respected Tokoname potter Kizan (紀山).
This piece features a clean internal rim (内縁, naien), a crisp silhouette with straight walls, and precise cut corner feet (切足, kiriachi). The body is accented with subtle upper and lower banding, showcasing refined hand-finishing.
The warm ochre-red hue of the unglazed, groggy Tokoname clay gives it a distinct presence, and it's beginning to form a beautiful patina (風合い, fuai) — a mark of time and quality.
External Dimensions (cm): 38.2 × 29.8 × 10.8
Condition:
Excellent – no chips or cracks. The pot is beginning to develop a lovely natural patina, indicating age and authentic use.

History of the Potter:
Kizan (紀山) is a respected Tokoname-based bonsai potter known for his skillful use of traditional Tokoname clays and minimalist, high-quality forms. His work typically emphasizes function, balance, and timeless simplicity — often seen in unglazed rectangles and mokko shapes.
He is part of the rich Tokoname ware tradition, which dates back to the Heian period (平安時代) and is one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns (日本六古窯, Nihon Rokkoyō).
Kizan's seal mark (落款, rakkan) is stamped cleanly on the base, confirming the authenticity of the piece.
