Description / 説明
A refined handmade Japanese bonsai pot by Kousen(光泉), from the Tokoname ceramic tradition of Aichi Prefecture(常滑市). This piece is made in a round form, maru-bachi(丸鉢), with a soft rounded body, generous planting area, and a calm, well-balanced appearance.
The exterior is finished in a delicate light blue glaze, tansei-yu(淡青釉), with subtle tonal variation and a soft ceramic depth. The glaze has a gentle blue-grey character, giving the pot a quiet and elegant feeling suitable for refined bonsai display. The warm unglazed Tokoname clay visible inside and underneath provides a pleasing contrast with the cool-toned glazed exterior.
The body has a rounded profile with a smooth, full shoulder and a neat upper rim, creating a soft but stable visual presence. The underside is supported by decorative cloud-scroll feet, kumo-ashi(雲足), with light blue glaze and warm exposed clay detail, adding refinement and traditional character to the piece.
The base includes one central drainage hole, mizunuki-ana(水抜き穴), with additional smaller wiring holes, harigane-ana(針金穴), making the pot practical for bonsai cultivation. The impressed Kousen seal, 「光泉」, is clearly visible to the base, confirming the maker.
A tasteful and elegant Tokoname glazed bonsai pot with a soft light blue glaze, rounded form, and decorative cloud feet. This pot would be especially suitable for flowering bonsai, fruiting species, deciduous trees, or a refined shohin-style composition where a cool, gentle glazed container is desired.
External dimensions: 24.8 x 24.8 x 6.3cm
Internal dimensions: 20.8 x 20.8 x 4.0cm
Condition: Excellent overall condition. Light age-related patina, minor glaze variation, and natural firing marks are present, consistent with a handmade glazed bonsai pot. One cloud-scroll foot shows a small imperfection, possibly a minor chip, as shown in the photos. This is discreet and does not affect the pot’s stability, display, or use.
