Description:
A vintage artisan-made Japanese bonsai pot by Mino Kenzan, produced in Tokoname and formed in a refined shallow oval shape (daen-gata / 楕円形). The profile is low and composed, reading as an asa-bachi (浅鉢), with a clean, continuous wall line. The mouth is finished with a subtle, softly defined lip (kuchi / 口), giving the pot a restrained and well-balanced silhouette.
The surface is unglazed (muyu-yu / 無釉), revealing a fine, sandy Tokoname clay body with natural variation in tone. Over time, the clay has developed an attractive age patina (koshoku / 古色), with soft transitions of ochre, warm grey, and earth hues that enhance depth without distraction. The material quality and firing character are clearly visible, contributing to the pot’s quiet strength and authenticity.
The underside shows integrated cut feet (kirikomi-ashi / 切り込み足), neatly executed and proportioned to give a stable, grounded stance. Two drainage holes (haisuiana / 排水穴) are present. The impressed rectangular seal on the base is crisp and consistent with documented marks associated with Mino Kenzan.
