Potter: Shinobu Amemiya 雨宮 忍

This is an artisan-made Japanese bonsai pot by Shinobu Amemiya of Tokoname, formed in a compact hexagonal shape (六角形) and left unglazed (無釉) to highlight the natural beauty of the clay. The pot is executed in warm, iron-rich Tokoname clay (鉄分を含む常滑土), fired to an earthy brown tone with subtle kiln variation and a soft, tactile surface.

Each panel features expressive hand-carved crab imagery (蟹彫文), rendered in deep relief with strong movement and excellent depth. The carving is deliberately irregular, with textured ground areas and sharply defined claws and body segments, giving the pot a lively, almost narrative quality. The contrast between the smooth rim, the groggy clay texture (砂目のある土味), and the darker recessed carving creates visual tension and depth from every angle.

The rim is gently flared with a defined lip (口縁), lending the pot a grounded, stable presence while maintaining refinement. A subtle lower basal band (下帯) transitions cleanly into the feet. The feet are short, stepped, and sculpted (段付き足), evenly spaced to provide both visual balance and structural stability. Over time, the unglazed surface will develop a rich patina (経年変化), enhancing the piece's character and individuality.

The interior is smoothly finished with a central drainage hole and additional wiring holes (水抜き穴・針金通し穴), ensuring excellent functionality for bonsai use.
