Description / 説明
A large handmade Japanese bonsai pot by Seibun（清文）, from the Tokoname ceramic tradition of Aichi Prefecture（常滑市）. This piece is made in a broad oval form, daen-bachi（楕円鉢）, with a low and elegant profile, giving it a calm, spacious and refined appearance suitable for a mature bonsai.
The pot is finished in unglazed Tokoname clay, muyu（無釉）, with a soft grey-brown tone and a naturally aged surface. The clay has a quiet, earthy character, tsuchi-aji（土味）, with subtle patina and tonal variation developed through age and use. This understated colour gives the pot a very shibui（渋い）feeling, making it especially suitable for traditional bonsai display.
The body has gently curved sides and a clean, rounded rim, kuchibuchi（口縁）, which creates a soft but stable visual frame. The simple oval shape is well balanced, with no unnecessary decoration, allowing the tree to remain the main focus. The low form and wide planting area would work particularly well with forest plantings, raft-style bonsai, broad deciduous compositions, or mature trees requiring a quiet and spacious container.
The underside is neatly finished with four cut feet, kiri-ashi（切足）, giving the pot good stability while keeping a low visual profile. The base includes one central drainage hole with additional drainage holes, mizunuki-ana（水抜き穴）, and smaller wiring holes, harigane-ana（針金穴）, making the pot practical for bonsai cultivation. The impressed Seibun seal, 「清文」, is clearly visible on the base.
A refined and highly usable Tokoname oval bonsai pot with excellent proportions, warm unglazed clay, and a quiet aged character. Its large size and simple form make it ideal for a mature bonsai or group planting where balance, restraint, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship are desired.

Condition: Excellent overall condition. Light age-related patina, water marks, and natural clay variation are present, consistent with a handmade unglazed bonsai pot. There appears to be a small old mark or minor edge imperfection to one underside foot area, shown in the photos, but it does not affect display or use.
