A vintage, artisan-made Japanese bonsai pot(日本製盆栽鉢)crafted by Izumi-ya Matsushita Masuo, known professionally as SENGO / Zenigo (仙吾 / 泉吾)—a respected Tokoname potter active during the mid-20th century.
This unglazed rectangular pot(無釉長方鉢)displays elegant Tokoname lines with gently flared walls(反り外壁)and a well-defined rim / lip(見込み縁)that give the form a refined upward movement. The cut, stepped feet(切り高台・雲脚)show classic hand-finishing associated with Sengo’s workshop.
The pot is crafted from warm Tokoname clay with natural grog inclusions(砂粒入り土), providing both texture and improved breathability. Over time, it has developed a beautiful aged patina(経年の風合い)that enhances its depth and character—qualities sought after by collectors.
A lower basal band(下面帯・下部胴帯)wraps the pot just above the feet, adding subtle structural definition without interrupting the clean plane of the walls.
On the underside, the pot features the impressed Izumi-ya / Sengo seal(泉屋・仙吾印)executed in tensho-style script(篆書体), along with dual drainage holes(排水穴)and additional wiring holes(針金穴)for secure bonsai mounting.
