Description / 商品説明
A vintage, artisan-made Japanese bonsai pot (日本製・手作り盆栽鉢) from the esteemed Tokoname region (常滑焼), hand-crafted by master potter Terahata Mazan (寺畑真山), also known as Mayama Mazan (真山窯).
This rectangular pot (長方形鉢) displays Mazan’s signature balance of refinement and strength (力強さと上品さの調和). The form features a clean internal rim (内縁仕立て) and integrated feet (一体型の足), blending smoothly into the lower body to create a unified, grounded silhouette (一体感のある優美な造形).
The deep blue glaze (藍釉) is exceptional — subtly graduated from a dark indigo at the rim to a lighter, speckled blue toward the base. Along the top edge, the colour gently transitions into a warm brown-golden band (金褐色の上縁帯), evoking the moment of twilight before nightfall (夕暮れから夜空への移ろい). Under certain light, fine crystalline flecks (結晶状の輝き) catch the eye, evoking a 夜空のような風情 (night-sky impression) that collectors deeply prize.
Over the decades, the surface has developed a delicate patina (古色), enriching the pot’s sense of age and quiet dignity. The groggy Tokoname clay beneath gives a subtle, natural texture visible where the glaze softens near the foot line — a beautiful dialogue between material and fire.
The underside bears both an impressed seal (印章) and a hand-carved signature (銘). The seal, rendered in stylized tenshotai (篆書体), and the engraved inscription 「真山」 authenticate this as a genuine work of Terahata Mazan, personally verified and confirmed by the artist himself.
Functional drainage and wiring holes (排水穴・針金穴) are precisely positioned, reflecting Mazan’s deep understanding of form and horticultural use.

Collector’s Note / 鑑賞メモ
Terahata Mazan’s work represents the pinnacle of Tokoname bonsai ceramics — valued for their balance, precision, and poetic glaze work (均整美と釉薬の詩情).
This piece, with its integrated feet, rich blue-to-golden gradient, and crystalline “night-sky” glaze, embodies his most celebrated aesthetic period.
A superb example of Showa-era Tokoname craftsmanship (昭和期の常滑名作), this pot offers both artistic and horticultural excellence — a museum-quality container (美術館級の盆栽鉢) ideal for conifers, deciduous trees, or accent plantings (草物).
