Description:
A vintage, artisan-crafted Japanese bonsai pot (bonsai-bachi 盆栽鉢) showcasing the refined aesthetic of Seto-yaki (瀬戸焼). The piece is finished in a deep, lustrous lapis-lazuli glaze, known in Japanese as ruri-yū (瑠璃釉), producing a rich and subtly variegated surface. The form presents a gently rounded mid-band and a softly compressed oval silhouette, delivering a calm, balanced presence (wabi to shibumi 侘・渋み). The rim is slightly thickened, creating a quiet sense of stability, while the underside features traditional, hand-formed feet (tebiki-ashi 手挽き足) and two cleanly cut drainage and wiring holes (mizu-nuke ana 水抜き穴 / nezuke ana 根付け穴).
The clay body displays the fine-grained character typical of Seto kilns, and the unglazed base has begun to develop a beautiful, natural patina (fūai 風合い) through age and use. The proportions and finish evoke the classic elegance of the Tōsui lineage, making it suitable for refined deciduous or evergreen compositions that benefit from strong color harmony.
