Description / 説明
A refined handmade Japanese bonsai pot by Yamafusa Koie(山房鯉江), fourth generation of the Koie Ceramics kiln(鯉江製陶所), from the Tokoname ceramic tradition of Aichi Prefecture(常滑市). This piece is made in a clean rectangular form, choho-bachi(長方鉢), with balanced proportions and a strong yet understated presence.

The exterior is finished in a soft light cream glaze, awa kurimu-yu(淡クリーム釉), with gentle warm tones and subtle natural variation across the surface. The glaze gives the pot a calm, elegant character while allowing the form and craftsmanship to remain the main focus. The warm unglazed Tokoname clay visible inside and underneath creates a pleasing contrast with the pale glazed exterior.

The body has softly flared sides and well-defined corners, giving the pot a stable and refined appearance. The internal rim, uchibuchi(内縁), is clean and practical, allowing a generous planting area while maintaining a neat visual frame. The overall design is restrained and shibui(渋い), suitable for traditional bonsai display.

The underside is neatly finished with stepped cut feet, dan-tsuki kiri-ashi(段付き切足), giving the pot stable support and a balanced stance. The base includes one central drainage hole, mizunuki-ana(水抜き穴), with additional drainage and wiring holes, harigane-ana(針金穴), making the pot fully practical for bonsai cultivation. The incised Yamafusa signature, 「山房」, is visible on the base and adds collector interest.

A tasteful and highly usable Tokoname glazed bonsai pot with excellent proportions, soft cream glaze, and quiet traditional character. Its rectangular form would be well suited to deciduous bonsai, flowering species, fruiting trees, or a refined shohin / chuhin composition where a pale glazed container is desired.
