A large, unglazed Mokko rectangle that features a raised lip, basal banding detail, and stepped feet. It is made from one of Nakano's specially formulated clays. The lip is also finished with a refined raised border, complementing the overall 'shibui' design.

Over time, a beautiful patina has developed.

Widely recognised as the world's leading artist for unglazed wares, Nakano Yukizyou is the founder and first-generation artist of Tokoname's Gyouzan kiln.

External dimensions: 46.0 x 35.6 x 11.4cm

Note: A 4mm chip is visible on the lip of the refined, raised border; it appears old.

Gyouzan - Yukizyou Nakano

Generally considered the best living Japanese potter for unglazed pots, Yukizyou Nakano, and his son-in-law, Yuuji Nakano, of the Gyouzan kiln,
They also produce some superb glazed pieces.

Yukizyou Nakano was born in 1940. He is referred to in Japan as 'Nakano 'Arukisan', or Nakano 'row three'.
He is a true master of his craft, and his pots display superb detail and refinement in their design and finish.
Drainage holes are often quirky in shape and arranged in patterns, and the undersides of the pots are finished with great attention to detail.
