Product Details:

Region: Tokoname 常滑市
Kiln: YAMAAKI
Potter: 3rd Gen Kataoka Toshio

A large, artisan-made rectangle with straight, square-edge corners, integrated feet, and an internal rim, we can see that it has developed a slight patina over the years, creating a very rustic clotted cream-looking pot.

With the Yamaaki kiln no longer in production since the early 2000s, pieces from the 3rd generation are increasingly sought-after by collectors. This pot offers not only utility but also historical and artistic value — a fine addition to any serious bonsai collection.

External dimensions: 40.5 x 30.8 x 8.5cm

Hand-nail signature above his personal seal.

Condition: Excellent!

Yamaaki, 3rd Generation Potter Kataoka Toshio. The kiln was started by Kataoka Akitsuga and fired by three generations of potters, until it finally went 'cold' in 2011. It was the most productive bonsai pot kiln in Tokoname, fired with gas, which gives those fantastic clay colours mimicking the pots of ancient China. There are a lot of production Yamaaki pots available; those with nail-carved signatures were hand-made by the Kataoka family, and consequently, are more valuable.
